This is part of a series. We post about cloud computing for two reasons. First, we receive questions about it; second, we received the suggestion to set-up a family cloud. Official Google Enterprise Blog: Better control in Google Sites with page-level permissions Aug 18, 2011

Hurrah! We've been focusing on distinguishing private vs public content (like this and through September 1, 2011, survey at bottom left corner of  page), so I think this option opens great opportunities for us. With a bit more technical guidance, achieving our objectives with a single domain name appears much more feasible.

Do you know how to map web sites? Will you help us get over the learning curve so we can efficiently implement the new page-level permissions? If so, or if you have other suggestions, please Email the author.

Read about Official Google Enterprise Blog: Better control in Google Sites with page-level permissions. Also, Google updated its Overview of site sharing here.

Thank you for reading, and taking time to provide your feedback.

The Safe Way to Save Data Aug 12, 2011

We receive inquiries about cloud computing, and are looking for expertise in our family (example). Here's an article by Laura Rich.

Maybe you’ve seen this error message on your computer: “Oops … the system encountered a problem (#700).” Or this one: “Arrggh! Our tubes are clogged!”. Or, sometimes most distressing of all, a notice that a site will be shut down.

These are no ordinary messages. They’re attached to online services that store your mail and contacts (Gmail); photo collection (Flickr); music (Lala) and more. When the computer servers on these sites -- and others like them -- go down, you lose access to your data, and you can’t do anything but wait.

Artistic content Aug 4, 2011

We're looking for family content for a related web site, and hope you'll contribute. Maybe your son or daughter (or you) performs in the school play, sings in a choir, or has a recital -- we'd like to add the performance to our list of venues here. So far the web site has information about some of our family's live performances in 1847 through July, 2011. Our events public calendar and timeline are here, and our Calendar FAQ here.

How about a slideshow of your family's arts and crafts? You can read about the new version of Google presentations here; you'll find an Overview at the Help Center here. We have a YouTube Channel to curate your videos here.

Brainstorm Names Aug 1, 2011

Get out your iPad, iPhone, Tablet, or Big Chief legal pad, and join the fun. Let's brainstorm names for our family's web sites. Think about clever, easy-to-remember names relevant to our family, that no one else is using. Spread the word and please make your suggestions by September 1, 2011

We want to register our domain name(s) and continue enhancing our Internet image. To register the name, it must be unique, and available (meaning no prior or pending registrations). The registrations have fees, but the searches are FREE.  If  we're related, and you wish to register domain name(s), you might like to first contact our web team because we have several discount codes we'll share with you.
