  • Our project updates (Big Family Websites
  • Every Day Is A Party (secular and religious holidays, annual celebrations, and other interesting days)
  • Family art exhibits, dance recitals, concerts, and theater performances (Big Family Arts

Family Birthdays and Anniversaries - Jan 30, 2011

Awhile ago (here), five siblings began sharing a calendar of  their families' birthdays, anniversaries, and other important events. From our census, we have about 60% of birthdays (116 relatives). If you wish to share this private calendar, please send our coordinator the personal Email account associated with your Google Calendar Account. We chose Google Calendar in August, 2010, from very positive family recommendations. While entering accounts to share another calendar with you this morning, our calendar coordinator received this system message:

The following people do not have Google Calendar accounts. Would you like to invite them to use Google Calendar?

Yes-- and we sent system invitation to each of our private family news participants. If you do not yet have a Google Calendar Account, please sign-up here, and send it via Email the author below. After receiving the coordinator's confirmation, Sign-in at the bottom of to see the calendar (here). Please peruse our Calendar FAQ. Thank you for reading!

A number of birthdays and anniversaries are missing from our calendar. Please  add your family's events via Email bigfamilywebsites-DOT-info-AT-gmail-DOT-com, or use the link below. Many thanks!

Respecting personal privacy Jan 22, 2011

As we start our public family web sites, be assured we respect your personal privacy. While increasing convenient opportunities for interactive participation, we are committed to using safe online practices

We follow advice from our family technology expert and use restricted web pages for confidential data such as our family's personal contact data, birthdays, and minors' photographs. To find useful links about online security, click here; please recommend other web sites (Contact Form). Let's all become familiar and stay up-to-date on the state of safe Internet practices.

Here's a proposed list of content to keep off our shared public web sites:

Gmail required? -- Updated Feb 15, 2012

Update: From feedback and recent Google changes, effective February 15, 2012, Gmail is not required to subscribe to restricted family content (FAQ). Family members find it more convenient to use Gmail to access our web sites; you can open Gmail here.

Previously, we required Gmail as advised by our family technology professionals  and based on our initial family web site history (FAQ) and our 2011 priorities.

Unless you contact us to make a change, your access account remains the same. We cannot foresee all possibilities, and continue to welcome your feedback.

Questions/comments below or via Email to bigfamilywebsites-DOT-info-AT-gmail-DOT-com.

2011 Priorities

Here's our proposal for 2011. Since we have several web sites requiring explicit authorization to sign-in, we'll focus more on Internet and other mobile applications, and exploring wider audiences to connect our extended family. For example, and soon, we'll launch public calendars, YouTube Channel(s), and streamlined Picasa Web Albums.

Also, we are evaluating Blog hosting services and other Google Sites, with both unlisted and listed public URLs. Anyone with the link can access and view the content on unlisted web sites. Listed public web sites will appear in Internet search results, and are easily viewed by the general public. Facebook and Twitter are also on our project lists.
